The Canvas Cake

Another exciting and unique personalised edible product from Eat Your Photo is the Canvas Cake. We have taken the photo cake to a whole new level and created a method of printing any image (photo quality) directly onto icing which in turn is applied to your cake. This creates a fantastic visual effect whereby your image or pattern entirely covers your cake (top and sides included) and it becomes an edible work of art.

As you can imagine this (as with our previous edible challenges) has not been a quick and easy process to develop not only the equipment capable of printing onto icing but the skill to transfer the icing to the cake.

When sugar icing is printed it must be in a soft a pliable state, in order for the edible ink to be absorbed into the surface and also it must be in a soft and pliable state when transferred to the cake, if not the colours would crack on the surface and destroy the effect. This is normally an advantage when decorating cakes as the icing can be easily worked around corners and curves on the surface of a cake and can be smoothed to finish the effect.

When the icing has been printed, however, and is picked up to be transferred to the cake, if it is soft, the image will be stretched and distorted, if it is dry, the image will crack. When we had developed the method of printing onto icing we had thought we had cracked it but actually the next step of the process proved even more difficult to master.

We don’t give in lightly and we have now mastered the process of creating Canvas Cakes for distribution around the country and it is another fantastic addition to our personalised edible product range. You can choose from the normal photo cake, the canvas cake, personalised cup cakes and the new gift cake and we guarantee that one of them will suit your needs and desires!
